AJ takes big steps toward her dream career with Restart Scheme support

AJ joined the Restart Scheme in May 2025 with a clear goal in mind; she wanted to become a Teaching Assistant. At 30 years old and a dedicated mum of two young children, she was ready to start her career journey and was open to any opportunities that would help her gain experience to reach her goal.

Since joining the Restart Scheme, AJ has shown incredible commitment to learning. She completed a range of employability modules with Coleg Sir Gar, covering topics like teamwork, emergency first aid, safeguarding children, recognising signs of abuse, autism awareness, and food allergies. These courses gave her a strong foundation and boosted her confidence.

Building on that progress, AJ recently enrolled with New Skills Academy to start her Level 2 Teaching Assistant Diploma, a flexible online course that will give her the knowledge and certification she needs to move closer to her dream role. To help her studies, she was supported with a DBS check and a laptop, making it easier for her to complete her training.

AJ’s previous experience in a nursery and residential home has strengthened her ability to support children and adults, as well as her organisational skills, qualities that will be valuable in education.

She is now actively applying for roles to gain hands-on experience and take the next step toward becoming a Teaching Assistant. Her determination and positive attitude are inspiring, and with the right support, AJ is well on her way to achieving her goal.
