Charley discovers a new career path with Restart Scheme support

After a long period out of work, Charley’s confidence was low, and she wasn’t sure which direction her future could take. Charley joined the Restart Scheme where she began to uncover something important; her passion for helping others learn.

During her early meetings with Zoe, her Job Coach from Serco, Charley spoke about how much she enjoyed supporting her own children with their learning and how she admired the work teaching assistants do in schools. With encouragement from Zoe Charley decided to explore that path more seriously. Step by step, her confidence began to grow.

Soon, Charley enrolled in a course to become a Teaching Assistant, throwing herself into her studies with enthusiasm and pride. Alongside her coursework, she began a work-experience placement in a local school, where staff describe her as supportive, patient, and a natural with the children.

Now, Charley is preparing to apply for her first Teaching Assistant roles, a goal that once felt completely out of reach. Today, she talks about her future with excitement rather than uncertainty.

Reflecting on her journey, Charley said “Zoe has been an amazing, supportive coach throughout my journey. Her advice, understanding, and emotional support have made all the difference.”

Charley’s story shows that with the right support, it’s possible to find confidence again and start something new. For Charley, this journey isn’t just about a career change, it’s about feeling proud of herself and enjoying the chance to help others learn.
