Connor joined the Restart Scheme in October 2024, with COPA Training in Rhyl. Connor was assigned Nicola Lunney as his Job Coach. When Connor attended his first couple of appointments, he attended with his mum and was very anxious, and his mum explained that she attends all appointments with him due to his anxiety. Nicola worked hard with Connor and asked Connor to start attending on his own although he was nervous.
Connor attended a work preparation day where, with support, he submitted his first-ever job application, which he was proud of. However, his attendance became inconsistent, and he missed several appointments. When asked, Connor explained he had been struggling with poor sleep, which left him feeling unwell. Nicola discussed the importance of maintaining a routine, even after a bad night’s sleep, as this is key in the workplace.
To help, the team arranged work experience for Connor, despite his initial anxiety. After encouragement and reassurance, he interviewed with the manager at B&M and was accepted for a work experience placement. Connor has now completed his first week, is enjoying the experience, and even thanked Nicola for motivating him to try. He has three weeks left and is guaranteed an interview at the end – best of luck to him!
