When Mariana joined the Restart Scheme, she was adjusting to life in the UK after moving from Romania, while caring for her 16‑year‑old son and 8‑year‑old grandson. Alongside managing her household, she was also working hard to improve her English, making it challenging to take the next steps into employment. Despite these challenges, she was eager to find work and open to roles in cleaning, warehouse, housekeeping, or production.
Mariana quickly showed her commitment by attending all appointments, responding promptly to communication, and actively seeking support. Working with her Job Coach, Ami Rushton from Shropshire Enable, she identified her key barriers to finding work and was referred to organisations including Citizens Advice Bureau and Shropshire Supports Refugees, while continuing to receive regular encouragement and confidence-building support through the Restart Scheme.
Ami also supported Mariana to create her first CV, helping her showcase her previous experience in production roles in the UK and event planning in Romania. With this in place, Mariana began applying for roles that suited her availability around childcare.
Mariana secured a production role with support for transport but remained motivated to progress further. When a short notice opportunity arose for a Site Welfare Operative role at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, she attended the induction the very next day. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude led to her securing the role, where she has since thrived.
Mariana’s hard work has been recognised through consistently positive employer feedback and HSEQ Award Certificates in November 2025 and February 2026 for her excellent standards.
Mariana said:
“The Restart Scheme has helped me believe in myself again. I am proud to be working and supporting my family. I am grateful for all the support I received.”
Mariana is now settled in her role, continuing to build her confidence and skills while creating a stable future for herself and her family.
