Nicole finds role that aligns with her values with Restart Scheme support and guidance

Nicole* came to the Restart Scheme unsure about her career path. Through discussions with her advisor from Copa Training, she discovered a passion for wanting to help people change their lives. Together, they explored opportunities, one of which was a Prison Officer role. With her advisor’s support, Nicole completed the application and began the multi-stage process.

Nicole worked hard and successfully passed the attitude test, Maths and English assessments, online situational test, and impressed at her interview. To prepare for the physical fitness test, Copa supported her to join the gym, and out of four candidates, Nicole was one of only two who passed.

Unfortunately, during the vetting stage, her application was unsuccessful due to distant family members having criminal records – something she had declared upfront. This was a huge setback and knocked her confidence. However, with encouragement from her advisor, Nicole was reminded that sometimes setbacks are simply redirection.

Together, Nicole and her advisor found a new opportunity with Adferiad, part of Cyfle Cymru, as a Peer Mentor – a role that perfectly aligns with her desire to help others. Nicole showed her dedication by bringing her children along to the Copa office, making sure they were cared for while she worked with her advisor to complete the job application. Her efforts paid off and she secured the job!

All of this took place while Nicole was also going through a divorce and moving house. Despite these personal challenges, she has shown incredible resilience, determination, and focus. Nicole’s journey is proof that with the right mindset and support, it’s possible to overcome obstacles and still achieve your dreams.
