When Gavin joined the Restart Scheme, he had been out of work for around a year. Despite bringing 26 years of work experience, he had struggled to secure employment and was aware that a gap out of work can make returning to employment more challenging.
Shortly after joining the Restart Scheme, Gavin secured a role as a Rapid Response Officer with Key Security Group. While this was a positive step forward, he was faced with the upfront costs associated with starting a new job.
With support from his Starting Point Recruitment Job Coach, Aneela, these barriers were quickly addressed. Aneela accompanied Gavin to purchase essential work clothing, including smart shoes and trousers, ensuring he had the professional appearance required for his new role. He also received bus tickets and a monthly train pass to help cover his travel costs during the crucial first weeks of employment.
This support made a significant difference. Without assistance with clothing and transport costs, Gavin felt it would have been difficult to start and sustain his new position. As these barriers were removed, his confidence grew and he felt more prepared for his first day at work.
The strong relationship built during his time on the Restart Scheme continued after he entered employment. Gavin remained in regular contact with Aneela, sharing updates about his first day and later his first week in the role as he settled into work.
Gavin is now enjoying his position as a Rapid Response Officer and is settling in well. The support he received through the Restart Scheme helped him overcome practical barriers at a key stage in his journey, enabling him to successfully transition back into employment.
