Thomas joined the Restart Scheme in September 2025, hoping to build a more confident approach to his job search, and get back into work. He had a clear interest in customer service, administration and banking roles. From the beginning, he worked closely with his Job Coach, Abigail from SPR, to update his CV and ensure it reflected the roles he wanted to pursue.
Although Thomas was committed, he faced some difficult moments along the way. After a few unsuccessful applications, he began to lose motivation, but Abigail continued to encourage him and kept him focused on the long‑term goals he had set for himself. To help build his confidence further, she referred him to an Interview Skills Workshop, where he learned useful techniques to improve how he presented himself to employers.
Thomas had previously applied for a position with Lloyds Bank but hadn’t heard back. During this time, Abigail worked closely with the Employer Engagement team to find additional customer service opportunities, making sure he always had options to consider. When Lloyds Bank later invited him to interview, the Restart Scheme team stepped in to provide tailored support. He took part in one‑to‑one mock interview sessions and received guidance on the two‑stage interview process to help him feel prepared and confident.
Practical support was also offered, including travel assistance for the interview and help with work clothing so he could start his new role feeling ready and assured. Although additional travel support was available for when he began work, Thomas didn’t need it as he lives close enough to walk.
His perseverance paid off when Thomas was offered the full‑time Customer Support Representative role with Lloyds Bank and began his new job on 2nd March 2026. The team has kept in touch to make sure he is settling well, and Thomas has shared how happy he is to be back in work and how much he appreciated the positive, reassuring support he received throughout his Restart Scheme journey.
